I attended a talk given by Travis on increasing the speed of a WordPress site. A lot of great information really well presented. I learned a great deal about using off-site sources rather than third-party plugins and many tips on improving site performance.

I'll be implementing Travis' advice about using off-site sources by recommending a client use an Instagram feed rather than a gallery on her site. The photographs would be the same, but would not be hosted on her server. I will also set the fetch interval to daily, rather than hourly, to avoid slowing the site.
